A Brooke photo shoot

It had been awhile since I posted any new Brooke photos, so here ya go. She is getting so big and walking all over the place. She loves to play with Rylan and adores Ashlynn. As you can see from the top right photo she likes to play whatever Rylan is playing (which is usually Dora Memory) and he likes to remind me that she doesn't play right. They are the light in my days!

The Many Faces of Rylan

Rocky and Ashlynn are both sick today so Rylan and I are having to create our own fun. I wanted to play around with my new camera so he posed with his many faces. I hope that you can easily find....excited, sad, sleepy, grumpy, and happy.

This one is for you Mark!

For those of you not in the "coaching world", let me introduce to you the most promising young football coaches in the business. You may not know them now, but you will. On your left is Mark Smith and your right Rocky Smart. Smith and Smart first became good friends while playing division III college football together in the late 90's. They have continued their friendship and loyalty to one another (aka stay purple) while advancing their individual careers. They have had the tremendous oppurtunity to work together on two different staffs while leading these 5A teams to much success. Both Smith and Smart's wives believe that they would probably rather be on the phone with one another more than to their wives, but are very supportive of this strong bond of friendship. We look for these two young stars to quickly become household names in the business sooner than later. So keep your eyes open and remember that you read about them first right here on the Smart Family Blog.

From the O-line to the starting line!

ROCKY'S FIRST 5K
I usually use this site to brag on the kiddos, but today Rocky gets a little yea-hoo! This morning at 8:00 a.m. in Grapevine, Rocky ran his first 5k. Just for the record it was 34 degrees with a light mist (he was wearing shorts, of course). He ran a total time of 24 minutes and 18 seconds which was under his goal.
Now in case you have forgotten, just three years ago Rocky weighed in at 280. He has lost 85 lbs. and kept it off for 3 years. Now he is flexing his muscles on the track and even inspiring his wife and friends to get moving and lose the weight. He plans to run more 5k's. I'll keep you posted.

Ashlynn receives the High Flyer Award

We are so proud of our Ashlynn. She received the Hughes High Flyer for her class this six weeks. There is only one child awarded per class each six weeks. She was beaming!

Here is what her teacher wrote about her......

I nominate Ashlynn Smart to be a Hughes High Flyer because Ashlynn is the ultimate example of a Hughes High Flyer! She truly has a heart for others and this shines through on a daily basis. Ashlynn is always thinking of others and trying to do her personal best at the same time. She is a responsible, reliable 2nd grader. Our class is lucky to have such a great example and leader. I can always count on Ashlynn to be a helper, friend, and awesome student. Way to go!

Comets Basketball Update 1-6-07

Game 5 vs. the Bucks (Boys Team, obviously) January 6th, 2007
Comets Win 19-12
We are now 3-2. I don’t guess it really matters when they are this young, but every time our team scores or the other team scores I see Ashlynn and two other real competitive little girls on her team check out the score. Their expressions are unique and priceless regardless of the current situation in the game. Ashlynn had a really good game. She scored 7 points offensively and her rebounding has really improved. Two of them she snagged out of the air. Last year she would wait and catch them off of the bounce. Her catching ability, ball handling, and dribbling has improved tremendously this season. It has been a long time since her last game but we went and practiced and played 4 times over the break and she did well.
AJ did a great job defensively. In her league they plan man defense and they wear arm bands to distinguish who they are suppose to defend. She limited the boy she played against to two points. One time he was able to get a clear shot because AJ ran into another player trying to get back into position. On his other three shots it looked like he was shooting out of a well. She has good position in front of him and to avoid getting it blocked he would shoot straight up. All three were air balls. The third went straight up and almost landed right back on his head. It was funny. I guess that there are five more games left now. Ashlynn is having a blast. She is going to play a late spring/early summer league this year instead of softball. I guess she has officially retired from softball and soccer.
